Review: Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4

The Taste of Revenge is Sweet and Satisfying

Amidst all the Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 leaked online, spoilers were floating around. I could not resist myself from watching it (and it was a pain to control the itching of writing the review immediately), and I did. And honestly, this was one of the best episodes in the Game of Thrones series so far.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 Review
Game of Thrones “The Spoils of War” is undoubtedly that episode which gives something to every GoT fan and in magnitude which is truly staggering.

Without wasting any time let us get to the Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 review.

If you haven’t watched it still, first, don’t read any further ‘cause it has massive spoilers. Second, you are missing out on something great. But any how let’s proceed.

DOTHRAKI, DRAGON AND ONE STUPID JAIME

Daenerys and Drogon / Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4
The last 15 minutes of the episode was stupendous and is going to be the focus today. So Jaime and Co. were returning to King’s Landing with wagons of food grain. (We already learnt from Randyll Tarly that the gold has reached King’s Landing).

When they thought that they have defeated Dany and Co., out came from the mountains, hordes of Dothraki with their thunderous clap and Drogon, from between the clouds, and literally served the Lannisters their ass.

Drogon just sets everything on fire and well, it was mildly satisfying seeing Cersei get a major blow. Maybe this will be like a wakeup call for her.

Bronn (in as Bronn he can get) asks Jaime to flee but the commander refuses to abandon his army, assuring that they can hold the Dothraki off, but oh sweet Jaime, you’re na├»ve.

Bronn does use Qyburn’s massive crossbow to hit Drogon and gets his shoulder, but Drogon just proved that he is a bad ass dragon and doesn’t give a fuck about anyone.

The episode ends with the Lannister army perished, the collection of the war spoiled and Jaime drowning! He actually thought that he can become the next Dragon-slayer and as summarized by Tyrion who watches the battle from the top of a nearby hill, he is a “fucking idiot”.

Drogon was about to make some Prince Charming roast but Bronn saved his ass at the last moment. (Jaime drowning is a smart cliffhanger, but I am sure he is not going to die!)

Bummer!

JOHN SNOW LOVES CAVES

Jon and Daenerys in the cave | Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4
So Jon takes Dany to the caves (yes cave!) in Dragonstone before he starts mining some Dragon glass.

He shows her cave paintings by the Children of The Forest that actually depicts the first Battle of Dawn. It has the engravings of the First Men as well, and of course, the White Walkers which kinda makes Dany realize that Jon was right about the real threat. She promises to help him fight the Walkers but only if he bends his knee. (I am not sure what kind of bending we are actually talking about!) *wink wink*

There is obvious chemistry between the two, amalgamated with mounds of sexual tension and mutual attraction (just have sex already!). As Ser Davos says, “I have noticed you staring at the good heart!” *Savage*

P.S. Jon says he doesn’t have time for that! Like Seriously. Tell us how the cave was!

REUNIONS EVERYWHERE

So in between all the burning people and cave stares, this episode saw two major reunions. This season has been all about reunions. Maybe they should start a club “With meetings in Westeros”.

So in the North, it is Arya who comes back to Winterfell. She reunites with her sister and brother.

She also meets Brienne and trains with her (which I guess is one of the best choreographed one-on-one sequences). There is also a reference to “no one” which is kinda cool.

Elsewhere, Theon reaches Dragonstone, sees Jon and almost runs but the latter catches him and says that he is letting Theon go only because he helped Sansa. (Worst reunion ever!)

AND MEANWHILE

Littlefinger is still creepy, but Bran creeps him some more in return. “Chaos is a ladder!” Nicely done Bran! High Five!

Cersei is in talks with the Iron Bank about giving back the entire loan amount and get help instead to acquire a large army.

Meera leaves for Greywater Watch and Bran screws up again by asking her to leave very coldly. Not even a goodbye! (What is up with this boy?) Maybe she will meet her father and we will get to see Howland Reed this season.

With only three more episodes left until the season finale, they are rushing with the POVs, but The Spoils of War was quite pleasing. The editing team and Matt Shakman deserves praise for they really turned this episode into a grander affair. I would pay to watch this episode on IMAX.

With everything set now, we have to wait till next Sunday.

  1. It is arguably the best episode in this season so far and "The Loot Train Attack" is the best sequence we have seen on the show since "The Battle of Bastards" last season... But I feel kinda sorry for Jamie, he is becoming the "Karna" of GOT...
